Sept. 22, 1943 - Feb. 12, 2007

Joseph Wayne Johnson, 63, Kokomo, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at his residence. He was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Kokomo, to Harold Duke Johnson and Esther C. (Herron) Johnson. He married Connie R. (McInturff) Johnson on Oct. 20, 1962, in Erwin, Tenn., and she survives.

For many years, he worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Kokomo. In 1972, he started working for Delco Electronics and retired in 2001. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1960 to 1964. He was a member of V.F.W. of Monticello, Eagles #255 of Kokomo, Albert E. Shockey detachment of the Marine Corp. League, he was also an auctioneer, and a notary public. He enjoyed fishing at his lake cottage in Monticello and spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son, Greg and wife Shawna Johnson, Kokomo; daughter, Penny Johnson, Florida; brother, Glenn Richard “Dick” and wife Gloria Johnson, West Middleton; two grandchildren, Abigail Johnson, and Duncan Spicer, both of Kokomo.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Johnson; daughter, Deborah Johnson; and a sister, Shirley Mitchell.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., with the Rev. Darrell Van Horn and the Rev. Bill Martin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo, with military honors being held at the cemetery on Saturday. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the mortuary.
